Horse Inspection Judging
Horses are assessed based on their quality. Foals up to 2 years old are assessed based on their conformation and movement. Tinkers 3 years old and older are assessed based on type, conformation, and movement. Breeding horses may also be assessed based on the quality of their offspring. Tinkers receive a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd premium, depending on their quality. The best Tinkers and good breeding horses can also receive the following awards:
PREDICATE *
To earn the 1st premium with a star, a Tinker must be at least 3 years old. At inspection, it must score at least 210 total points, with a minimum of 70 points in the TYPICAL section.
A stallion must receive a 1st premium with a star to be approved.
PREDICATE PREFERENT
This award is based on the quality of the horse's offspring.
Stallion:
A stallion must have at least 15 offspring aged 3 years or older.
Nine of these offspring must have earned a Premium 1, and six must have earned a Premium 2.
The stallion must also have offspring approved by the NSVT.
Mare:
A mare must have at least three offspring aged 3 years or older who have earned a Premium 1.
PREDICATE MODEL **
This award is given to the best Tinkers. Tinkers must first earn a Premium 1 with a star. When a Tinker is at least 5 years old, they are eligible for the MODEL award. To earn a MODEL award, a Tinker must earn a minimum of 7.5 points for type. Exterior and movement must be true to type.
Score Summary
Horses 3 years and older
Score sum of three components: type, exterior, and movement (average gait and trot).
First Place Premium + Star: 210 points or more, with a minimum of 70 points for type
First Place Premium: 210 points or more
Second Place Premium: 180-209 points, with a minimum of 65 points for type
Third Place Premium: less than 180 points, with a minimum of 60 points for type
If a horse scores less than 65 points for type, it automatically receives a third bonus, regardless of the total points for exterior and movement.
Foals at least 2 years old
Total points from two components: exterior and movement (average pace and trot).
First Place Premium: 140 points or more
Second Place Premium: 120-139 points
Third Place Premium: less than 120 points
